The Story of The EnneaCats™

The EnneaCats™ were born from a simple belief:

Different by Design. Better Together.

Each EnneaCat experiences the world a little differently. They notice different things, care about different things, react in different ways, and bring different gifts to the group.

Athena sees what could be better. Bella sees who could use a little love. Oscar sees what can be accomplished. Willow sees meaning and beauty others may miss. Sherlock wants to understand. Scout prepares for what could happen. Sierra sees possibilities everywhere. Thor steps forward when someone needs protection. And Daisy reminds everyone that there is room for every voice and perspective.

Those differences are what make them special.

But there's something else the EnneaCats discover:

Sometimes our greatest strength can also become our greatest struggle.

The desire to improve can become criticism. Helping can become over-helping. Achievement can become a measure of worth. Deep feelings can make it difficult to see what's already beautiful. Knowledge can become withdrawal. Preparation can become worry. Possibility can become escape. Strength can become control. And keeping the peace can mean losing your own voice.

That doesn't make any of them a bad cat.

There are no bad cats.

Every EnneaCat is lovable, meaningful and valuable. And every EnneaCat has room to grow.

Because our personalities are made up, in part, of patterns—ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that we learn and repeat. Some of those patterns serve us beautifully. Others may have once protected or helped us but no longer work quite so well.

And that's where the opportunity begins.

Patterns are not prisons.

When we become aware of our patterns, accept ourselves without judgment, become curious about what is underneath our behavior, and remain open to what our struggles might have to teach us, we gain something incredibly important:

Choice.

We can process pain instead of continuing to act from it.

We can challenge thoughts and beliefs instead of automatically believing them.

We can change behaviors that are hurting us or the people we love.

And with awareness, acceptance, practice, and the support of people who care about us, we can make different choices.

Not because we need to become someone else.

But because we are becoming freer to be the healthiest version of who we already are.

That's why the EnneaCats aren't interested in putting anyone into a personality box. They want us to recognize the box, understand how we got there, appreciate what it has given us—and discover that we are free to play outside of it.

And they don't learn to do that alone.

There are no bad cats.

Every EnneaCat is lovable, meaningful and valuable. And every EnneaCat has room to grow.

Athena doesn't need to become Sierra, but Sierra can teach Athena something about spontaneity and possibility. Sierra doesn't need to become Athena, but Athena can teach Sierra something about commitment and follow-through. Thor can teach Daisy to use her voice. Daisy can teach Thor that strength doesn't always have to push. Sherlock can help the others slow down and understand, while the others remind Sherlock that sometimes life has to be experienced—not simply understood.

No EnneaCat has everything the group needs.
But every EnneaCat has something the group needs.

Their differences sometimes create conflict. Sometimes they make each other crazy. And sometimes the very cat who frustrates them most has something important to teach them.

That's what it means to be Better Together.

Through humor, friendship, mistakes, adventures and plenty of very different personalities, the EnneaCats invite us to:

Recognize ourselves.
Understand what's underneath.
Accept ourselves and one another.
And grow together.

Our hope is that children and adults will see themselves in these cats—not as labels or limitations, but with recognition, compassion and possibility.

That they'll laugh and say, “That's me!”

That they'll begin to understand, “Ohhh...that's why I do that.”

And eventually discover, “I don't have to keep doing it that way.”

Because understanding our personality isn't the end of the journey.

It's where we finally have the opportunity to choose what comes next.

The EnneaCats are the vehicle.
Growth is the destination.

And along the way, they remind us of something we hope none of us ever forget:

You are lovable. You are valuable. You belong. You have gifts the world needs. And you will always have opportunities to grow.
