Meet Athena
EnneaCat Type One:
The Reformer
Make it better. Do what’s right. Create a difference.
Athena has an eye for what could be better and a heart that genuinely wants to make a difference. She values integrity, responsibility, fairness, and doing things well.
Sometimes, though, that desire to make things better can become pressure — for herself and everyone around her.
Recognize Me:
When Athena is stressed or stuck in her patterns, she can become critical, impatient, controlling, or overly focused on what is wrong.
She may correct people, point out mistakes, redo something that wasn’t done “right,” or take responsibility for things that were never really hers to carry.
It can be hard for Athena to relax when something still needs fixing. Even when everyone else thinks something is good enough, Athena may already be noticing the three things that could make it better.
And no one hears her inner critic more loudly than Athena herself.
Athena might be thinking:
“Someone needs to fix this.”
“I should have done better.”
“If I don’t take care of it, who will?”
Her humor says it best:
“I’m not trying to be critical. I’m just trying to explain how you’re wrong.” 😉
Understand Me:
What Athena wishes people understood is that underneath all that correcting and improving is usually a good intention.
She cares.
She wants to be responsible. She wants things to be fair. She wants people to follow through, keep their word, and do what is right.
When Athena points out a problem, she usually isn’t trying to make someone feel bad. In her mind, noticing what isn’t working is often the first step toward making it better.
Her mind naturally evaluates:
Is this right? Is this fair? Could this be improved? Am I doing enough?
Emotionally, Athena may carry frustration or resentment when she feels she is doing more than her share — especially when she hasn’t allowed herself to say no.
And behaviorally, she may organize, correct, prepare, fix, remind, and take over because responsibility feels safer than leaving something undone.
Athena’s challenge isn’t that she cares too much.
It’s remembering that caring doesn’t require carrying everything.
Grow with Me:
Athena’s growth is not simply about learning to “let it go.”
First, she is learning something deeper:
Goodness already exists.
She does not have to create goodness by making everything perfect.
She does not have to prove her goodness by working harder, being more responsible, or preventing every mistake.
And she does not have to correct another person in order for them to find their own way.
As Athena becomes healthier, that tight inner pressure begins to soften.
She becomes more patient, accepting, playful, compassionate, and able to see the whole picture — not just what needs improvement.
Instead of automatically asking:
“What’s wrong here?”
she is learning to also ask:
“But… what is already good?”
That one question helps Athena move from correction to compassion and from perfection to presence.
HOW YOU CAN HELP ATHENA GROW
Athena doesn’t need someone constantly telling her to relax or stop being so critical. Chances are, she is already criticizing herself for being critical. 😄
What helps Athena most is feeling appreciated for the good intention underneath her effort while also being reminded that she doesn’t have to carry everything.
She needs to hear things like:
“You’ve done enough.”
“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be good.”
“You can trust someone else to handle this.”
“Making a mistake doesn’t make you wrong or bad.”
“You don’t have to earn rest.”
And perhaps most importantly:
“Athena, this one may not actually be yours to fix.”
When Athena feels safe enough to loosen her grip, she can turn all that energy she once spent perfecting into something far more powerful — presence.
WHAT ATHENA BRINGS TO THE WORLD
Athena sees possibilities for improvement that others often miss.
She brings integrity, discernment, responsibility, fairness, dedication, and a sincere desire to make life better.
She keeps her promises.
She notices what matters.
She is willing to put in the effort.
She often becomes the person others can count on when something truly needs to be done.
At her healthiest, Athena doesn’t use her standards to judge the world.
She uses her wisdom to serve it.
Her gift is not perfection.
Her gift is helping all of us remember that our choices matter — and that each of us has the ability to make a positive difference.
Athena doesn’t need to stop wanting a better world.
She’s simply learning that the world — and Athena herself — can already contain goodness while still having room to grow. 💛
